With the sun out and summer finally set in full-fledge, I thought of sharing some of my favorite summer destinations for some travel inspiration!
With over a thousand islands, Croatia makes for the perfect island hopping summer spot! Each island has something different to offer: Rustic old city walls and fortresses and the sought after Game of Thrones tours in Dubrovnik, Wine tasting, segway rides and relaxing walks along the Split promenade, and Partying all day and all night at clubs like Hula Hula, Carpe Diem and Pink Champagne in Hvar. Visit the Unesco World Heritage, Plitvice lake waterfalls or indulge in hikes, zip-lining, and lots of other land and water adventure activities! You can either charter expensive yachts or effective catamarans or simply take the convenient public boats to cross islands or just sail over the scenic Adriatic sea. Also don’t forget to visit the famous blue and green caves off the Dalmatian coast and Marco Polo’s scenic island of Korcula.
With such untouched natural beauty of the coast, forests and seas along with the rich historic culture and an upcoming buzzing party scene, Croatia definitely makes for a fun summer vacay!
Malta’s high summer temperatures are ideal for tanning on the beach or a dip in the sea.
Its endless beaches offer countless water sports like parasailing, kayaking, jet-skiing, banana boats and even horse riding on the sandy coastline. Boat rides to see the grottos in Gozo and snorkeling/diving to encounter the unique marine life is a must do! Party on St. Julian's bar and restaurant strip that stays crowded till sunrise! Malta has an extensive event calendar from wine, beer, olive oil and chocolate festivals to arts and jazz festivals in creative settings. Visits to Popeye town and exploring gardens and temples in Mdina, sampling local wines or experiencing the open air theaters add something extra to the “typical” summer destination.
Portugal has it all. Warm sunny weather, beautiful coastal landscapes, cities filled with history, architecture, culture and buzzing clubs and bars! Experience Lisbon and its interesting history, delicious food, incredible shopping and buzzing nightlife. Don't miss witnessing the sun set over this city on with a cruise on Tagus river. Visit the Unseco site in Sintra and drive through the beautiful coastline of Cascais. For wine lovers, Portugal has some flavorful local red, white and "green" wines and of course, world-famous Porto wine!
Summer in Portugal is incomplete without a trip to Algarve and the Benagil Caves! Azores is full off long beach stretches, well-preserved lagoons, cute coastal cafes, countless golf courses, cycling tracks, hikes and other activities. And there are still the cities of Porto and Faro that offer so much more! So now you know, why Portugal is on this list!
4. Amalfi Coast, Italy
Any number of days could be less on this painting-like coast! Capri, Sorrento, Positano, Amalfi, Ravello are just some of the must visit towns on this beautiful coastline.
Stroll the beautiful gardens and spoil yourself in the luxurious villas in Capri. Take a boat trip to the blue and green grottos and experience the chair lifts to Ana Capri. While visiting the famous Villa Rufolo in Ravello, stay back for romantic candle light dinner on the terrace gardens. Enjoy a day trip to the old town Pompeii and picnic on Mt. Vesuvius. Hike the spectacular and steep "path of gods" from Positano. Explore the colorful winding streets in the quaint towns of Sorrento and Positano. Sign up for a pasta or gelato making class, take a limoncello tour, get drunk on the best Italian wines and binge eat cheesy pastas and crispy pizzas, sample authentic Italian foods at the weekend food markets, visit an Italian leather factory and get customized shoes made!
Visit the unbelievably scenic beaches of Minori, Majori or Fiordo di Furore. Enjoy cliff diving, snorkeling and other activities in the water or just relax on under the Mediterranean sun. Beach, ocean, wine and pizza all together- definitely a dream come true!
5. Greek Islands
If I had to picture paradise, an imagine of the Greek islands would instantly pop into my head!
Romance in Santorini as you bike through the bumpy streets to watch dusk orange sunsets and candy floss skies over the white architecture of this breathtaking city. Enjoy drinks and candle-light dinners at rooftop terraces or cozy corners across the city. Stay in a luxurious villa overlooking the coast or spend a day snorkeling and swimming out on sea. Relax on the red sand beaches, discover prolific architecture and take cable car rides and hikes to the Volcano. Party in Mykonos alongside celebrities, movie stars and famous personalities at the most happening clubs like Nammos, Tropicana, ToyRoom and Bonbonniere. Known for its scandalous beach parties by day and glamorous clubs by night, Mykonos is the place to be for every party-lover! While you shower in champagne and dance on table tops in the day, you can shop the most expensive brands at night! Don’t let all the partying take you away from the sparkling waters and soft beaches. Dive at paradise reef and interact with the underwater world including barracuda, starfish and octopus. Mykonos goes beyond its beaches, it’s true beauty lies in its exceptional white and blue contrasted churches, monasteries, lighthouses and other architectural monuments. Islands of Crete, Corfu, Ios and Zakynthos also offer the perfect blend of party and relax!
The Greek islands should be a pick for anyone who wants to relax on isolated mesmerizing beaches or party hard, romance, shop, appreciate culture or indulge in eating tasty Greek cuisine and in drinking delightful local wines.
If you're visiting or have visited any of these places, tell me you'r e experience at them! If not, I hope I have tempted you enough to pick one of these destinations for a holiday, this summer or the next!
